As you may know, in Chinese, the days of the week are typically referred to using numbers. Here’s how the days of the week are related to numbers in Mandarin Chinese:
- Monday – 星期一 (Xīngqī yī) – Literally, “Week One”
- Tuesday – 星期二 (Xīngqī èr) – Literally, “Week Two”
- Wednesday – 星期三 (Xīngqī sān) – Literally, “Week Three”
- Thursday – 星期四 (Xīngqī sì) – Literally, “Week Four”
- Friday – 星期五 (Xīngqī wǔ) – Literally, “Week Five”
- Saturday – 星期六 (Xīngqī liù) – Literally, “Week Six”
- Sunday – 星期天 (Xīngqī tiān) or 星期日 (Xīngqī rì) – Literally, “Week Day”
As you can see, the days of the week are often expressed using the word “星期” (Xīngqī), which means “week,” followed by the corresponding number. This numerical system is straightforward and logical, making it relatively easy for learners to understand and remember the days of the week in Chinese.
