Dragon Boat Festival Printable Pack

Spring went swiftly with its blooming flowers and little sprouts, and summer has taken its place as the days grow longer and the sunshine is more abundant. While we are enjoying the sunshine, the reeds and the lotus by the river, the atmosphere brings a sense of the Chinese tradition, yes, the Dragon Boat Festival is approaching.

It is time for families reunion! Sitting around, talking, laughing, and making sticky rice dumplings (zongzi) together!

1. Vocabulary List

The vocabulary list helps manage the overall learning content and activities. It can be used as the answer key to the whole learning pack.

The Dragon Boat Festival theme pack contains twelve words and one expression.

The twelve words can be either introduced all at once or slit up into two parts by learning six words each session since the Pinyin and Chinese characters worksheets can be split up accordingly.

2. Printable Flashcards

Flashcards are great for learning Chinese vocabulary and sentence structures. Kids can use flashcards to learn and practice Chinese words and expressions repeatedly, and they can also use flashcards to do games.

There are two versions of the flashcards in the learning pack. The single-sided version and the double-sided version.

Set A (single-sided version)

The single-sided version has a picture, Chinese characters, Pinyin (for spelling out the sound in Chinese), and English definitions all on one side. Kids can look at the pictures and read the words by looking at the Pinyin and trying to memorize how to say the words in Chinese.

Set B (double-sided version)

For double-sided flashcards, the front side has a picture with English definition, and the back side has Chinese characters with Pinyin. When printing the flashcards double-sided, bear in mind that select double-sided printing and flip on the short edge.

You can print them out with double-sided printing for kids to practice. Show kids the picture side and let them try to say the word in Chinese. To make it more difficult, you can shuffle the cards to make them disordered. After the kids say the word in Chinese, check the answer by flipping the card to look at the back side which has the Chinese word and Pinyin on it.

Another way to print flashcard set B is by single-sided printing. This way, you can let kids to a matching game. Let them try to match the pictures with the correct Chinese words.

In China, people in the northern regions generally prefer sweet sticky rice dumplings filled with jujube (or other fillings such as red bean); whereas people in the southern regions prefer savory sticky rice dumplings filled with meat.

What flavor will you and your kids or students like?
