How to Play Mid-Autumn Chinese Character Bingo

What You Need

  • Bingo cards (each player gets one)
  • Calling cards (cut them out and put them in a bag, box, or stack)
  • Markers (coins, buttons, counters, or just a pen/pencil to cross off)

Setup

  1. Give each player one bingo card.
  2. Place all the calling cards face down or in a container.
  3. Make sure players have markers or pencils ready.

How to Play

  1. The caller picks a calling card and reads it aloud.
    • Bonus: Ask students to read the character aloud themselves for practice!
  2. Players check their bingo cards. If they have that character, they mark it.
  3. Continue drawing and reading cards one at a time.
  4. The first player to mark a full row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) shouts “Bingo!” and wins.

Variations (for more fun!)

  • Four Corners → Winner is the first to mark all 4 corners.
  • Full Card → Winner must cover the entire card (longer game).
  • Cultural Twist → When a word is called, players can say what it means in English (e.g., 月饼 yuèbǐng = mooncake).
