How to Play Thanksgiving Chinese Character Bingo

What You Need

  • Bingo cards (each player gets one)
  • Bingo caller sheet ( to make the game more fun, teachers or parents can cut out the 9 calling cards on the caller sheet and put them in a bag, box, or stack)
  • Markers (coins, buttons, counters, or just a pen/pencil to cross off)

Setup

  1. Give each player one bingo card.
  2. Get the Caller sheet ready, or place all the calling cards face down or in a container if you cut the calling cards out.
  3. Make sure players have markers or pencils ready.

How to Play

  1. The caller reads one word aloud at a time (when it comes to calling cards in the jar – picks a calling card and reads it aloud).
  2. Players check their bingo cards. If they have that character, they mark it.
  3. Continue drawing and reading cards one at a time.
  4. The first player to mark a full row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) shouts “Bingo!” and wins.

Variations (for more fun!)

  • Four Corners → Winner is the first to mark all 4 corners.
  • Full Card → Winner must cover the entire card (longer game).
  • Cultural Twist → When a word is called, players can say what it means in English (e.g., 南瓜 = pumpkin).

It’s simple, interactive, and a wonderful way to review Chinese vocabulary in a holiday setting.
