How to use the shopping list and its activity sheets

Activity 1

For classroom use, teachers cut out the food name labels and food images that they would like the kids to practice with. Stick the labels at the bottom of each grid on the shopping cart (see the sample picture above). Scatter the food pictures and have students find the corresponding image to the food name label and then stick it on the grid.

Instead of adding food names on the grids of the shopping cart, you can also add color, shape, and number labels (see same 2 above) on the grid for kids to practice colors, shapes, numbers, etc. while doing shopping activities.

Activity 1

There are 60 common items on the three-page shopping list.

Step 1: Kids will color the items that their families are going to buy.

Step 2: Take the shopping list to the supermarket. Fill the circles under the items that the kids have found and are going to buy.

Step 3: After shopping and back home, the kids can cut out the items they have bought and stick them on the shopping cart page and write down the date on the top left of the shopping cart page.

It’s done!

Of course, you can change the activity orders the way you like, for example, if you are in a hurry to go shopping, you can have the kids just take the plain shopping list with them, and during shopping, the kids will fill the circles of the items that they have found and going to buy, then color the items after they are back home as a way to relax.

Keep the shopping cart page every time after shopping and put them together, kids will be able to track what items they or their families buy repeatedly and on what items they spend most.

By reviewing and analyzing their buying patterns, kids will have a sense of organization and budgeting. Meanwhile, it will help kids develop their decision-making skills.

Activity 2

Next stage, once your kids can recognize Chinese characters or Pinyin, they can try to match the images to the Chinese names. Cut along the lines of the images, disorder them, then have your kids to match each image to its Chinese name.
