The Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节 Zhōngqiū Jié) is a wonderful time to bring joy and culture into your classroom or home.
One fun and interactive way to teach young learners about this traditional holiday is with a Bingo game featuring nine Mid-Autumn themed Chinese words (images+characters + pinyin). Kids can learn Chinese characters, practice pinyin, and connect the words with pictures — all while having fun!

The Vocabulary Words
Here are the nine themed words included in the game:
- 月亮 (yuè liàng) – Moon
- 月饼 (yuè bǐng) – Mooncake
- 玉兔 (yù tù) – Jade Rabbit
- 嫦娥 (cháng é) – Chang’e (Moon Goddess)
- 灯笼 (dēng lóng) – Lantern
- 桂花 (guì huā) – Osmanthus flower
- 团圆 (tuán yuán) – Reunion
- 柚子 (yòu zi) – Pomelo
- 丰收 (fēng shōu) – Harvest
Each word comes with an image to help learners easily connect vocabulary with meaning.

How to Play Mid-Autumn Festival Bingo
- Print out a set of Bingo cards (the images from the Bingo Calling sheet) and the Bingo template for each student and one more calling sheet for the teacher, parent, or game leader;
- Cut out the calling cards and put them in a bowl or other container;
- Cut out the Bingo cards;
- Hand out the blank Bingo board (the template) and the set of cards to each student;
- Have students arrange and paste the cards on the bingo sheet in any order they like.
- Give each player a set of markers or Bingo chips.
- The teacher/host draw a calling card from the bowl and announces it;
- Players find the word on their card and mark it (with a marker, chip, or by circling);
- A player shouts “Bingo!” when they complete a row, column, or diagonal and wins the game;
- For longer games, you can play until several winners, or until someone fills the entire card.
