1. Vocabulary list

The vocabulary list helps manage the overall learning content and activities. It can be used as the answer key to each worksheet, so every time if teachers, parents, or learners are not sure of their answers to a worksheet, they can always refer to this vocabulary list.

Having the vocabulary list, parents who don’t understand Chinese themselves can also manage the learning of their learners.

2. Printable Flashcards

Flashcards are great for learning Chinese vocabulary and sentence structures. Kids can use flashcards to learn and practice Chinese words and expressions repeatedly, and they can also use flashcards to play games.

There are two versions of the flashcards in the learning pack. The single-sided version and the double-sided version.

Set A (single-sided version)

The single-sided version has a picture, Chinese characters, Pinyin (for spelling out the sound in Chinese), and English definitions all on one side. Kids can look at the pictures and read the words by looking at the Pinyin and trying to memorize how to say the words in Chinese.

Set B (double-sided version)

For double-sided flashcards, the front side has a picture with English definition, and the back side has Chinese characters with Pinyin. When printing the flashcards double-sided, bear in mind that select double-sided printing and flip on the short edge.

You can print them out with double-sided printing for kids to practice. Show kids the picture side and let them try to say the word in Chinese. To make it more difficult, you can shuffle the cards to make them disordered. After the kids say the word in Chinese, check the answer by flipping the card to look at the back side which has the Chinese word and Pinyin on it.

Another way to print flashcard set B is by single-sided printing. This way, you can let kids do a matching game. Let them try to match the pictures with the correct Chinese words.

Flashcards are perfect for learning a language as we can explore many different kinds of games using flashcards.

For printing the flashcards, set the page orientation as “landscape”

3. Printable Worksheets

There are more than ten different kinds of activity worksheets for kids to work on, which allow kids to practice Pinyin, Chinese characters, vocabulary, and expressions in many ways.

Below images are some samples for each activity worksheet. For the whole pack of printable activity worksheets, check out our Sports Printable Pack.

Pinyin Worksheet

Write each Pinyin word by the given syllables.

This exercise can help kids get familiar with the composition of the sound of a Chinese word, which will help them practice spelling and reading of Pinyin.

The practice of Pinyin can give the kids an idea of how a Chinese sound is composed. Learning Pinyin is important for the Chinese language as it is the foundation of Chinese pronunciation, even Chinese elementary school students in China all have to learn Pinyin at the beginning. Check out the Chinese Pinyin Workbook for a comprehensive practice of Pinyin tracing through various engaging handwriting activities.

Chinese character worksheets

Activity 1 – Character tracing and coloring

Chinese character coloring sheets allow learners to practice writing characters of the words in a fun way. Instead of writing only, coloring the characters with crayons or coloring pencils first and then following the character strokes to write them with pencils. They can also draw pictures at the bottom of the pages to make the worksheets more colorful.

There are also pinyin and English definition for each word. Kids will be able to know the meaning and Chinese pronunciation of each word while they are writing.

The character coloring sheets cover nine activity words.

Activity 2 – Character jigsaw

Character jigsaw is a great fun and hands-on practice. My kids and students love it!

Each character worksheet includes two activities.

  1. Jigsaw – Cut out the scrambled character pieces on the first page with scissors and paste them together on the second page with glue to form a Chinese character. For small kids, parents need to cut out the pieces for their kids.
  2. Character writing – This activity requests handwriting skills and is for kids aged 5 and above.

The Character jigsaw worksheets cover 5 verbs of the sports topic.

Vocabulary worksheets

Three different types of vocabulary activities worksheets all with beautiful illustrations that will help attract kids’ attention during the exercise.

Activity 1– Sort by action word

This practice is perfect for kids to understand how we say a certain kind of sports in Chinese since it is very different from English.

In English no matter if it is a basketball or a soccer, when we play the game, we say “play basketball” and “play soccer” The verb for the ball game is “play”. While in Chinese, we use the specific action verb for playing a kind of ball game. For example, for play basketball, we say 打篮球dǎ lán qiú(dǎ means to hit),and for play soccer we say 踢足球tī zú qiú(tī means to kick)。

This worksheet can help kids practice using the verbs. So basically for the balls we use hands or we use hands to hold the sports equipment, we would use the verb “dǎ” which means “to hit”. When we use feet to play the ball, we would use the verb “tī” which means to “kick”. And I also add the verb 骑 qí, “qí ” means “to ride”, so we use it for riding a bike or ride a horse.

Activity 2 – Match the word to the picture

Activity 3– Word search

This practice can help kids get familiar with the structure of Chinese characters and help them easier memorize the Chinese characters.

Sentence worksheets

There are three pages for sentence practice which include five different kinds of activities.

Activity 1– Fill in the blanks

Learners will read the two sentences and choose one proper word for each sentence from the four given words and then fill in the blanks.

The hints are given by showing the sentences in Pinyin.

Activity 2-Rearrange words

This is to practice sentence structure. Rearranging words will make learning think about what the correct order should be. It helps learners enhance their understanding of the grammar and sentence structure rules and is a great exercise for learning a language.

Activity 3-Draw a picture to show the meaning of the sentence.

This is a fun and relaxed time that allows learners to actively draw about what they have learned. It helps stimulate learners’ creativity and motivation in the learning process.

Activity 4-Copy sentences

Copying sentences is a traditional way, though, a good way for reinforcing learners’ memory. It also helps enhance learners’ reading comprehension in the future along with the accumulation of their vocabulary.

This exercise can be arranged before or after aforesaid sentence activities.

Activity 5-Sentence search

Look at the sentences at the bottom of the worksheet and find and circle the sentences in the hidden puzzle.

3. Printable Game Activity Sheets

Domino cards game

Chinese domino cards game is simple and fun to practice characters and words.

No preparation is required. Print the page and cut out the cards along with the solid line.

In this game, kids will try to match each illustration to its Chinese word.

I Spy

Kids like the I Spy game as they like searching for things. It is a fun game and can also help children to memorize the names of objects in learning a language.

Bingo

Bingo game is perfect for learning a language. It helps learners reinforce their vocabulary and enhance listening comprehension.

There are two versions of bingo game: The picture version and the Chinese character version.

Picture version can be used for practicing listening. Listen to the items that the teacher or parent called out and find the correct items.

The Chinese character version is used for literacy plus listening practice, therefore it is more difficult than the picture version. Same way, the teacher or parent calls out the items, and students need to recognize and find the Chinese characters.

Instructions:

  1. Print each learner’s bingo card page and the 3×3 bingo board page.
  2. The learners cut out all the nine cards and arrange them on the 3X3 bingo board in any order they like.
  3. Game starts. As the parent or teacher calls out the names of the object. The learners will turn the card over.
  4. The learner who turns three cards over in a straight line first wins the game. This game can be played over and over again.

Survey

A survey is a good practice for practicing speaking a language as it gives the opportunity to use the words and expresses what learners have learned in their real life.

After learning the sports vocabulary and expressions, let’s walk around and ask people what sports they can do by asking: 你会____吗?nǐ huì ____ ma?(Can you ___?) The person who is asked will be answering the question by saying: 我会wǒ huì。/我不会 wǒ bú huì。(I can. / I can’t.). Then write their names and put a checkmark if they can or a cross mark if they can’t.

Coloring Pages

kids enjoy coloring activities. Coloring pages can help kids relax and release stress after learning. It also helps develop their hand-eye coordination.

After coloring the pages, all the pages can be stapled together with a stapler to make a mini book.
