2024 Desk Calendar

Every year this time, I would go to the stationary shop buy myself and my kids the desk calenars for the coming new year. They are nicely designed and colorful.

However, I found that the space for writing notes is limited, even I tried to write as small as possible, still there was not enough space and it looked messy.

From last year, I started making calendars by myself. My desired calendar is simple, that is having simple design and ample space for writing down my tasks and schedules. As a result, I made myself and my kids our own calendars last year, they approved easy-to-use. Similiarly, this tyear, I created the 2024 desk calendar myslef and I would like to share it with those who also need the simple and ample space desk calendar.

Why Not A Digital Calendar or Planner

Many people are using digital calendars or planners nowadays, as they have many advantages comparing with physical desk calendars. For example, they can be accessible on a range of different devices, people can check their tasks and events everywhere and anytime they want to. Plus, they can be modified and updated flexibly.

Why A Desk Calendar

I used to write tasks and schedules on my cell phone as I could check it wherever and whenever I want. But as most the the day I sit at my desk creating Chinese learning materials or teaching Chinese on-line, I checked my desk calendar more frequently without even realizing it. I think the reasons that I use my desk calendar more frequently than the digital one are:

Easy to glance – I lay the desk calendar on the left side of my desk, whenever I want to check my schedule, I just give a quick glance at it.

Visually appealing – Even I do not intentionally check my calendar, I glance at it from time to time as it just lays on my desk, which keeps me frequently check and update my schedule and plans.

Convenient to write -When I have a new task or appointment, I can quick grab the calendar and write things down. And when a task it done, I simply use a pen to put a check mark on it. It allows me to write my tasks and schedule easily and quickly.

All the above actions can be done without the needs of swiping up my device and opening the App.

What do I Write on My Calendar

I use calendar for both family and personal plans. Family plans include family events, special dates, travel plans, doctor appointments, and school events and extra-curriculum activities, etc.. Personal plans include my schedules of blogging, Chinese lessons, workout, etc..

As my calendar is plain without pictures, it allows me to “decorate” my calendar by writing different plans with different colored pens. The color-coding allows me to distinguish between different types of plans, make the time allocation easily seen, plus, it make the calendar more engaging and enjoyable!
