1. Vocabulary List

The vocabulary list helps manage the overall learning content and activities. It can be used as the answer key to the whole learning pack.

The Chinese New Year theme pack contains eight words and one expression.

The eight words can be either introduced all at once or slit up into two parts by learning four words each session since the Pinyin and Chinese characters worksheets can be split up accordingly.

2. Flashcards

Flashcards are great and effective learning tools for learning Chinese vocabulary. Kids can use flashcards to learn, practice, and review vocabulary. Besides, Flashcards can also be turned into fun and engaging Chinese learning games, which make the learning process more fun and interactive.

There are two versions of the flashcards in the learning pack: the single-sided version and the double-sided version.

Single-sided version

The single-sided version has a picture, Chinese characters, Pinyin (for spelling out the sound in Chinese), and English definitions all on one side. Teachers or parents can teach new words with the single-sided flashcards so that students or kids can associate the new word with the image easily. The Pinyin can give the learners a visual impression of how to spell out the sound of the words.

Double-sided version

For double-sided flashcards, one side has Chinese characters, and the other side has an image, Pinyin, and English translation.

Students or kids can review, practice and memorize the words that they have learned with the double-sided flashcards.

For Chinese character learners, they can look at the side that has images, Pinyin and English definitions and try to recall the Characters. Or the other way round, they can look at the side that has Chinese characters only and try to pronounce the word and tell the meaning of the word. Learners can always refer to the other side of the card for answers.

How to Print the Flashcards

When printing the flashcards, bear in mind to set the printer to print in landscape orientation. For double-sided flashcards, select double-sided printing and flip on the short edge. Please make sure the paper is neatly placed in the printer so that the flashcards for double-sided printing can align properly. Suggest printing the flashcards on heavy paper for durable use. Laminate is perfect for durable use.

Since the flashcards have a different layout from that of the worksheets, I included them at the end of the printable pack in order to manage the print work easier.

Using Flashcards For Games

Matching Games – There are several ways to print the flashcards and do the matching game based on the learning goals. You can have the kids match Pinyin, match characters, or more difficulty, match Pinyin/English to the characters.

Other learning games such as Charades, and Bingo, etc. can also be played with flashcards.
