Chinese New Year is approaching! I am working on hands-on and no-prep Chinese learning materials for kids and students to enjoy. The festival provides a wonderful opportunity to engage young learners in the rich traditions and customs from vibrant decorations.
Jigsaw puzzles are a popular and enjoyable activity. It is also an effective educational tool in learning a language given that it involves critical thinking, problem-solving, and hand-eye coordination.
On this page, you can find the jigsaw puzzle of the Chinese New Year blessing character “福 | fú” meaning “Good Fortune” . By completing the jigsaw puzzle, it can be used as the Chinese New Year decor to stick on places around rooms such as doors, windows, or walls.
There are 4 pieces (2×2) of jigsaw puzzles and 9 pieces (3×3) of jigsaw puzzles for the character “福” respectively that are free to download.
Scroll down to the end of this blog, you will see the download link.

There are two versions of the jigsaw puzzles. The 4-piece (2×2) version and the 9-piece (3×3) version.
The 4-piece (2×2) version has large pieces and is easier for young learners to hold. And also the difficulty of the 2×2 puzzle piece is just right for young Chinese beginner learners.
For intermediate and advanced learners, there is a 9-piece (3×3) jigsaw puzzle that they can challenge.
Students can complete the activity and bring their creations home to adorn their houses in preparation for the upcoming Chinese New Year.
It’s also a great opportunity for them to showcase their creativity and immerse themselves in the festive spirit.

How to do the Chinese character jigsaw puzzle
The Chinese character jigsaw puzzle has two pages, one page is the character puzzle, and one page is the board which also offers the Chinese character writing grids with Pinyin (the phonetics), stroke orders, and English definitions.
Directions:
- cut out the scrambled character pieces on page one;
- assemble the pieces by connecting the lines of the character;
- form the character and paste the pieces on page two- the board page.
- Done!
The interesting thing is that many people stick the blessing sticker upside down, meaning good fortune arrives. As in Chinese the words ” upside down” and “arrive” are homophonic.
