Spinner wheels make fun and engaging activities in the classroom especially for learning a language. It is an effective way to help student with their vocabulary, grammar, conversation practice.
On this page, you can find five spinner wheel templates in both printable and editable versions that are free to download.
Preparation
Teachers or parents can add words or questions to the template with power point.
(You can also print out the template first, then paste pre prepared small pictures in each division on the template; or just simply write words or sentences in each division on the template.)
Print the templates on A4, or other sizes of paper you like. Make sure to set the printing scale to fit the printing area. Suggest printing it on cardstock for durable use.
Cut out the spinner wheel and the arrow.
Get a pencil and a paper clip. Tape or glue the arrow on the paper clip. (Or to make it easier, you can just simply use the paper clip without the arrow.)
Done!
How to play
It’s very easy to use. Just place the paper clip in the center of the wheel, then place the pencil in the center of the paper clip. Students take turns to flick the paper clip and answer the corresponding questions.
To add more fun, add points on each sector. At the end of the game, student/team who has most points wins.

I usually use the spinner wheel template for vocabulary and conversation review. My students love it!
For vocabulary practice, what I usually do is copying images from the textbook on A4 paper, cut off the images, and paste them in the divisions on the spinner wheel or the grids on the board game template with double-sided adhesive tape or glue, then it’s ready to play. Students take turns to flick the paper clip and say the name of the corresponding image that the paper clip pointed to.
For sentence structure practice, write down the sentence structure around the center of the wheel. Students practice the sentence with the word they land on.
For example if your are teaching the sentence structure “I like…” with fruit vocab, write down the sentence structure as: I like ___ (我喜欢___). Students say the sentence with the word (apple/orange etc.) they land on.
You can also use the templates for Q and A. Just add one question to each division such as “What day is it today? “, “How old are you?” etc.. Then have students take turns to flick the paper clip and answer the corresponding questions.
