Free “May I…?” Spinner Wheel

Learning how to ask for permission appropriately is essential in everyday situations. It helps build polite and respectful communication in very language. Moreover, it helps learners express their needs directly. This clarity allows the receivers to respond and react quickly.

On this page, you can find the “May I/ 我可以(wǒ kě yǐ)……? ” expression Spinner Wheel which can help learners practice this expression in various situation in a fun and engaging way.

There are ten vibrant images on the spinner wheel, they are illustrations of:

1. stand up: 站起来 zhàn qǐ lái
2. sit down: 坐下 zuò xià
3. go home: 回家 huí jiā
4. run: 跑 pǎo
5. play basketball:打篮球 dǎ lán qiú
6. go out: 出去 chū qù
7. speak (English): 说(英语) shuō ( yīng yǔ)
8. come in: 进来 jìn lái
9. read a book: 看书 kàn shū
10. go to the bathroom: 去厕所 qù cè suǒ

Preparation： 

Print the templates on A4, or other sizes of paper you like. Make sure to set the printing scale to fit the printing area. Suggest printing it on cardstock for durable use.

Cut out the spinner wheel and the arrow.

Get a pencil and a paper clip. Tape or glue the arrow on the paper clip. (Or to make it easier, you can just simply use the paper clip without the arrow.)

Done！

How to play

It’s very easy to use. Just place the paper clip in the center of the wheel, then place the pencil in the center of the paper clip. Students take turns to flick the paper clip and ask for the corresponding permission using the sentence structure: May I ..? in Chinese .

To add more fun, add points on each sector. At the end of the game, student/team who has most points wins.

For vocabulary review, what I usually do is copying pictures that I need from the textbook or other learning materials with a copy machine. You may need to enlarge the pictures according to the size of your grids on the Snakes and Ladders board sheet. Cut out each picture, and then paste each picture on grids on the board game template, then it’s ready to play.
